AUTOTAMP VS Other Tamping Devices

The AUTOTAMP unit is very unique comparatively to other methods of tamping. AUTOTAMP has analyzed many of the problematic issues that exist in other tamping devices and confidently improved them.

Hand-Held Tamper

This is the most widely used method of tamping. It is a very low tech, inconsistent way of packing coffee. Completely dependent on the users ability to tamp an even, perfect 30-35lbs of pressure every time, which is nearly impossible. Construction of this product is usually plastic, aluminum or stainless steel.

Clicker Style, Hand-Held Tamper

This is the industries first attempt at an audible (clicking sound) tamper which “clicks” when 35lbs of force has been reached. The problem with this technique is that when 35lbs is reached and a click occurs, it is still difficult to precisely stop the downward motion of the tamp without pressing slightly farther. (30lbs may end up at 37lbs) consistency and the lack of evenness are still a problem. Construction of this product is generally stainless steel.

Clicker Style Lever Tamper

This device does pose the same problems as the above clicker hand held tamping device, but is also very complicated with its internal structure and requires a lot of maintenance. This tamper does create a more even tamp because of built in forks and is commonly constructed of aluminum and painted steel.
